We host resident artists at the art center Spring, Summer and Fall. Our center offers Group Residencies that host multiple artists at a time as a way to cultivate community, and provide a setting that inspires people in unexpected ways. In between group sessions, we have a limited amount of space for individual artists to come and use the facilities. Sometimes on their own, and sometimes with other artists on the property. Please read about Group Residencies or Individual Residencies to understand the types of opportunities we have on offer and see which is right for you.

facilities
There are a variety of buildings on the property, including the main house with a front and back porch, a huge 2 story timber frame barn, a small shed/workspace, a stage in the field, 3 four season yurts, an off-grid cabin, and a cathedral like outbuilding. There are also remnants of outdoor classrooms scattered throughout the woods, which include seating areas, fire pits and primitive shelters. There are numerous paths that wind through the woods, and the beautiful Sheepscot River at the bottom of the hill.
Each resident will be assigned their own bedroom and a dedicated work space. There are live/work spaces, private work spaces, and a large shared studio. Bedrooms are located in most of the buildings on the property except for the barn. Once you are accepted, each resident will have the chance to pick the type of studio and living space that works best for them. WiFi is accessible throughout most of the homestead area. There are also plenty of communal spaces that you can claim for the day or longer as an alternate to your dedicated workspace.
The main house is the original homestead house built in 1760. It contains the communal areas including the kitchen, dining room and living room, a growing library, and a digital workspace. It also contains some of the bedrooms and workspaces, and is the main area during exhibitions and public events. Laundry facilities and a clothesline are available for residents to use.

Studios
Our studios are housed in a variety of buildings on the property. We match each resident to a studio based on their preferences and their individual needs as an artist. Studio spaces change depending on each resident’s requirements and the amount of people in attendance. You will always have privacy and a quiet space to work.
Please Note: Our studio spaces are unconventional and artists will make use of each space as they see fit.
The yurts can be used as individual studios or as live/work spaces. There is a large 2 story barn with communal studio space on the second floor, and a shop with a concrete floor on the first floor. The first floor of the barn can also be used as dedicated work space, work space for oversize projects, and for use by performers. There is a fiber arts communal studio that can be used by anyone. The cabin and the shed both have desks for writing and drawing. There are also private workspaces in two of the bedrooms of the main house.
For dancers or other performers we have a large barn with a concrete floor, a large flat mowed yard, and a small stage in the field plus various large indoor spaces with wooden floors including the yurts and the upstairs of the barn.
Each studio comes with work tables and lighting, privacy screens that can double as walls to hang work, and shelves to store supplies. We also have an easel available for use and many communal resources including a textiles studio, carpentry and carving tools, communal art supplies, and a small tabletop printing press.
